President |

Hello everyone. I am Marlene Swears and I have been involved with the Metis movement in BC for well over 20 years. When I became involved, I was a young married woman with two children. I used to take them with me for meetings and different Metis functions. They have grown up around the various Metis happening in the Province and have even participated in different Committees and Boards. I have been involved so long that I now have grandchildren who spend a lot of time around our local office and well on their way to promoting the Metis way of life! My four year old granddaughter looks forward to any event we have and is especially keen on the annual bake sale. She gets to make the apple pie. As you can see I am very passionate about all my children and I am honored to be sitting on the Board of the Metis Commission. I look forward to working for you for a long time as your family is as important to you as mine is for me.

I grew up in the Interior of BC in a community called Wallachin. I graduated from Ashcroft Secondary School in 1981 and then went back to University when I was 32 years old. I finished off the Social Service Worker program and then took intermittent courses from there. The Aboriginal organizations I have worked for are: Metis Nation of Alberta, Treaty 6 & 7, School District #73 as a First Nations Support Worker and Interior Metis Child & Family Services. I am one of the founding members of Kamloops Metis Family Services (now known as Interior Metis Child & Family Services) and its current Executive Director. I am very proud to have been able to serve the Metis people of this area and I continue to be excited about the many opportunities that we have as Metis people to empower one another in every aspect of establishing our Metis Nation. I am Proud to be Metis and will continue to work for the best tomorrow for our children and families.
